Ibrahim Ozbolat, assistant professor of mechanical and industrial engineering and co-director of the Advanced Manufacturing Technology Group in the Center for Computer-Aided Design, has been selected by the NSF to receive a $400,000 Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Award over the next five years. The award is effective July 1, 2014.
The CAREER award is the most prestigious NSF honor for junior faculty and recognizes research and teaching excellence, as well as scholars who are likely to become future academic leaders. The award, presented to engineers and scientists across the country, is designed to help universities attract and retain outstanding young faculty members.
Ozbolat received his CAREER Award for the project titled "Hybrid Bioprinting of Engineered Vascularized Endocrine Tissues."
His current research interests lie in computer-aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM), computational geometry, biomanufacturing, virtual manufacturing, electronic manufacturing, tissue engineering, rapid prototyping, and heterogeneous object modeling.
He received his doctorate in industrial and systems engineering from the University at Buffalo, 2011. He joined the UI engineering faculty that same year.
