Instrumented Lexus

Instrumented Lexus

OPL instrumented the vehicle. The architecture of the system was designed to give the vehicle a flexibility to match the design of a given experiment. The equipment uses standardized Aircraft Transport Rack enclosures and mounting trays to make it durable and quickly interchangeable. The equipment was carefully integrated to maintain the aesthetic of the interior of the car.

The armrest in the back seat has been engineered to have Ethernet connections.  The interior has been preserved and without the armrest up it is unnoticeable that the car has been instrumented.

Here is a shot of the top of the armrest up.  Notice you can now see the Ethernet connections.

The Novatel GPS is located on the trunk of the car.

The trunk is where all the computers are located.  The computers have been removed for this picture. The amplifier is also located in the trunk; it is the large box on the left side of the picture.

The front console has also been instrumented with Ethernet ports.

Here is what it looks like when the ports are covered up.

The wires that run the video cameras, eye trackers, and Ethernet have been placed in the frame of the car.

Here are some of the eye tracking wires that are running along the base of the car.
