Research Assistant III
The Center for Computer-Aided Design, The University of Iowa, is seeking applicants for a full-time Laboratory Research Engineer/ Research Assistant III position supporting the BioMechanics of Soft Tissues (BioMOST) laboratory, starting immediately. The BioMOST lab conducts research in the field of cardiopulmonary biomechanics – study of arterial aneurysms and lungs, and development of vascular implants and biomaterials. This position will be responsible for coordinating experimental and computational research in the BioMOST Lab. The position will require working with the lab director, Prof. M.L. Raghavan, clinical collaborators and graduate students toward preparation of proposals, conducting experiments and computational analyses. Specific position responsibilities include but are not limited to (1) assist in the development of image analysis protocols of patient-specific aneurysms, (2) design and development of electro-mechanical test systems, and (3) providing maintenance for and updates to laboratory experimental systems/devices.
Requires the academic knowledge of a discipline, including advanced study or demonstrated capacity for engineering or physical science research that is generally associated with a Master's degree or an equivalent combination of education and progressively responsible work experience. Preference will be given for MS or BSE degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Biomedical, or Computer Engineering or related field. Prior knowledge or exposure to one or more of the following is desired, but not required: image processing and segmentation, design of electro-mechanical devices, use of transducers and data acquisition systems/labview, etc. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
Salary commensurate with experience. The initial appointment is for 2 years with possibility for extension. Work authorization in the USA is required as this position is made possible through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).
