The newest addition to CCAD's list of cutting edge facilities is a six-walled virtual workspace we call The Portal. This million-dollar facility is capable of immersing a person in a virtual world with unprecedented realism. The user can interact with virtual objects through the use of a handheld controller. By manipulating the controller, the user can move objects and cause certain designated actions to take place, while viewing these actions from an optimal angle.

We use a high-fidelity driving simulator to run experiments that simulate road conditions in order to study driver responses. The simulator can also be used to evaluate a driver's ability to perform while impaired or distracted.
